The calculators, guides and cost information on Yards of Material are estimates for planning. They are not professional engineering, construction or legal advice.

Quantities are estimates

Results depend on your measurements and on typical material properties from published sources. Real materials vary in moisture, grading and compaction from one supplier and one load to the next. Confirm quantities with your supplier before you order, and keep a margin for waste.

Codes, safety and structural work

Slab thickness, footing depth, post-hole depth, retaining-wall design and drainage can be governed by local building codes and HOA rules. Follow them, and use a licensed professional for structural work. A retaining wall that holds back more than about 4 feet of soil generally needs engineering under the International Residential Code. Your local code may set a different limit.

Prices

Price ranges shown on this site come from cited, dated sources or our own survey of published prices. Prices change and vary widely by region, season and order size. Always get a written quote.

Firewood weights and loads

Firewood weights vary with species and moisture. Before you load a vehicle, check its payload on the tire and loading placard inside the driver’s door.
